New Tool Wall for Joensuu Normal School

Kolo Design's tool wall is an elegant and striking Finnish design product, which is a cost-effective and space-efficient storage solution for tools and accessories.

The tool wall is made from high-quality domestic birch plywood, and the double waxing provides excellent protection against dirt. The tool wall is fully customizable, taking into account individual needs in terms of dimensions, drawers, and nameplates!

All tool drawers are easily removable and transferable. In the drawers, you can store almost all basic tools, and each tool has its designated place, which can be facilitated by customizable nameplates! Dividers are available for the drawers according to your needs, and these dividers are also transferable. Customized tool drawers are available for multiple tools, providing protection for tool blades and keeping them organized. Durable hooks are also available for the tool wall, providing an easy way to store longer tools and other easily hangable tools.

Kolo Design's tool wall is designed especially with educational institutions in mind, but it is suitable for many other purposes as well. For educational institutions, the tool wall is a new functional productized solution to an age-old problem: how to keep tools neatly organized and in the right places so that students can find what they need and also return tools to their proper places. The design process of the tool wall has involved technical education teachers, ensuring that the end result genuinely addresses the everyday challenges experienced by teachers!

A satisfied technical education teacher, Tuukka Vannas, smiles at Joensuu Normal School. The reason for Tuukka's satisfaction is the tool wall designed and manufactured by Kolo Design, acquired by the school.

"The new tool wall was first implemented in the craft room for 1st-3rd graders at Joensuu Normal School in 2022. When the solution was found to be effective, the trial was expanded to the 4th-9th-grade technical education class starting from the fall of 2023. The experiences with the product have been extremely positive," says Teacher Vannas.

"One of the biggest advantages of the tool wall is that you can easily and effortlessly remove entire drawers for students to use. This works especially well with younger students, to whom tools can be distributed directly to their work tables. Compared to traditional tool cabinets, the space requirement is smaller, and the wall solution can accommodate tools equivalent to about two and a half tool cabinets. The organization of the tool wall can also be easily changed, and thus, less frequently used tools can be stored in the upper parts of the wall," adds Vannas and continues, "and best of all, with the current solution, students have found tools better on the wall, and returning them to the right places – thanks to the nameplates – works more often than before, which, from a teacher's perspective, is a wonderful thing!" concludes Vannas.
